07:40 pm - The more things change the more they stay the same I went to a bazaar on Friday with my mom and my cousin. As we were getting ready to leave, a woman looked at me and said, "Hi, Laura. How are you doing?" In my favor, she did look familiar, though I had no idea what her name was. Turned out it was my high school homeroom teacher. I haven't seen the woman in almost 20 years. Not only did she recognize me, she had no problem remembering my name. I guess I look about the same as I did in high school. I don't know if that's a compliment or an insult to the rut I'm in. Let everyone try to guess the titles and authors of your books. I'll be very surprised if anybody gets most of these. Most of my collection is in boxes in my storage unit. All I have out are a few favorites and the ones I'm currently reading. And I read a lot of young adult and juvenile fiction. ( Good luck ) It's unfortunate that most of my collection is locked away, buy maybe somebody will figure out one or two. Current Mood: sick

09:01 pm - Jealousy rears its little head Sydney had an attack of jealousy this weekend. Remember, she's almost 16 months. A friend of R's came over for dinner. She has a 6-week-old little boy. R took the baby and sat down on the couch. Sydney did not like that. She grabbed hold of the baby's onesie and tried to pull him out of her mommy's lap. She got quite a grip on him too. Baby Lars is a big boy, long anyway. He's got humongous feet for a baby. His parents are both pretty tall. Sydney should learn how to play nice with him now. In a few years he's probably going to be bigger than her. Current Mood: amused

04:26 pm - *Insert title here* I made homemade from scratch whole wheat bread over the weekend. So yummy with a little bit of butter when it is still warm right out of the oven! But it makes two loaves and I can't eat two loaves all by myself. So Sis made a rotisserie chicken and we took that and a loaf of bread over to a neighbor who had a baby boy about a week ago. She's also got a toddler so I know the food was very much appreciated. That's me. I love to bake. But I can't eat as much as I bake by myself so I also love to share. Knowing me can make you fat! 09:13 pm - Why is it I rarely have anything good to rant about? When I apply for a job it usually ends up taking me hours. That's because nearly every one requires a separate application. Some websites require that I create a profile before I can apply for one of their jobs. And some jobs require a resume and a cover letter in addition to an application. This isn't counting the ones that also have a list of supplementary questions that they want me to answer. Given this, you might understand why I was so peeved this afternoon. I spent at least 4 hours creating a profile on the city of Oakland website and uploading a resume, which basically just reiterates everything I just put in the application. I also need to supply a cover letter and spend $8 to send them an official transcript so they know I wasn't lying when I said I went to library school. Then I spent a long time crafting my answers to the supplementary questions, making sure to follow the instructions. When I am satisfied that I have given a good accounting of myself for why I would be an ideal candidate, I hit the submit button. *We're sorry but your session has ended and you just lost everything you spent the last hour typing.* I wanted to throw the computer out the window. Nowhere in the instructions does it say that you have only a limited amount of time to type your answers before the website craps out on you. The good news: I have until Sept. 18th to submit my completed application. The bad news: I have to type that crap all over again. I'll probably end up going to all that effort to never hear from them except the polite form letter saying they didn't even think I was worth talking to. This is basically my life. ( Letting off steam, again ) Whew. This got long. I think I'll put the pics I have in another post. Current Mood: peeved in so many ways

08:42 pm - We'll Meet Again at the Rainbow Bridge Shyla - 7/15/95 to 7/6/09 My beloved cat had an almost two month long battle with illness. The vet diagnosed her with kidney failure. I faithfully treated her as well as my budget would allow. She had good days and bad days. It didn't help that I never established a rapport with the vet and often got the feeling that she didn't care if my cat lived or died. I spoke to a different vet a few days ago who was sympathetic and willing to listen. In a final effort I agreed to have Shyla x-rayed at a neighboring clinic. Bad news. Shyla had fluid on her chest, which had almost completely collapsed her lungs, making it difficult for her to breathe. The vet also found a lump, which she was pretty sure was cancer (it was). Her kidneys actually weren't too bad. I made the decision to take Shyla home to give everyone the chance to say goodbye. Lincoln gave her a hug and a kiss. (He doesn't understand, but it was so sweet). Just before 11pm she yowled a few times and died. My sister drove me to the emergency vet so they could cremate her. She paid for it, too. I miss my baby girl terribly. I keep turning around and expecting her to be lying on my bed or begging for food. She was a good cat and I am glad to have known her for the past 14 years. I'll see Shyla again someday on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. Current Mood: depressed
